I hope that 2010 is
a awesome year for all and SAG can find a way
not to
strike, so we can all get back to the craft
that we love...
I have a real passion
for
indie filmmakers, what I call "The Underdogs Of
The Entertainment Industry". A true indie
filmmaker hears the word NO most of the
time all though the phase of production process.
I have been involved with indie filmmaking for
the last twenty years. In 1990 I was a judge for
a organization called "The Clarita Awards", it was
a film festival that showcased student indie
filmmakers films. Kids 7-18 made homemade
videos, some of them where very bad, however
some of them OMG! You could see the talent in a
lot of those kids videos. Some of those kids
later when on to film schools and are now working
in the entertainment industry.
Some people look at indie
filmmakers as scum, making low-budget crap...
They forget that even today well known
filmmakers started out doing the same types of
movies and look at them today. Every filmmaker
starts at the bottom and works there way to the
top.
I had a good friend of
mine tell me at the time when I was design this
website; "Why are you wasting your time with
indie filmmakers! They have no money, no
training, no talent, and they are like children
running around with a camera. This industry was built on the
backs of professional filmmakers for over a
hundred years,
not by cheesy reality show want-to-be
filmmakers. In the old days they would work in
the entertainment system and work there way up
the ladder. Today you get some kid that just had
a new/hot reality show, and last year they where
probably flipping hamburgers, and now they're
trying to tell me how to do my job, I've been
doing this job longer then they have been
alive... They're f-ing-up the entertainment
industry system. The unions are going away and
soon our industry will be full of untrained and
inexperienced production crews."
After hearing all of
that, I thought to myself, why do I want to do
this?
Then after a few days of
thinking about it, I remembered those kids years
ago. Then I thought to myself, what where people
thinking and saying about filmmakers such as;
Alfred Hitchcock, Roman Polanski, Martin
Scorsese, George
Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Stanley
Kubrick, Ron
Howard, Clint Eastwood, Michael
Landon, Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, and many
more.
Then we have the true indie filmmakers
such as; Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford,
Douglass Fairbanks, Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton,
Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle, and even
Rodger Corman.
Corman's place in film
history is assured simply through his unrivalled
eye for talent - among many world-class names
who were employed by him at a very early stage
in their careers are Francis Ford Coppola,
Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme,
James Cameron, Ron
Howard, Peter Bogdanovich,
Joe Dante and many others - which means
that his influence on modern American cinema is
almost incalculable.
With your help and support,
this website could be a high-end marketing tool to expose
yourself to others in the entertainment industry. I would
love to see this website explode
with new opportunities for all of us..."
